If you've ever wondered why certain foods, environments, or routines either uplift or drain you, Ayurveda may have the answers. Rooted in ancient Indian wisdom, Ayurveda is a holistic system of health that teaches you how to live in harmony with your body's natural constitution - your dosha.
At Restorative Consulting, we integrate Ayurvedic analysis into our coaching sessions to help you align with your energetic makeup and make soul-nourishing choices. Let's explore how it works - and how it can transform your daily life.
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda, meaning "the science of life", is a 5,000-year-old system that sees health as a state of balance between body, mind, and spirit. Instead of focusing on systems, it focuses on root cause - preventing dis-ease by living in sync with your nature.
The foundation of Ayurveda is the three doshas, or mind-body energies:
Vata (Air + Ether): Light, mobile, dry, and cold. Governs movement, communication, and creativity.
Pitta (Fire + Water): Hot, sharp, intense. Governs digestion, focus, and transformation.
Kapha (Earth + Water): Heavy, slow, stable, and nurturing. Governs structure, immunity, and groundedness.
Each person has a unique doshic constitution (called prakriti) that influences everything from your digestion and emotions to your ideal lifestyle.
Discovering Your Dosha Type
Your might be predominantly one dosha or combination like Vata-Pitta or Pitta-Kapha. Your dosha affects how you:
Digest food
React under stress
Sleep and recharge
Relate to others
Experience mental focus
Example: A Vata client struggling with anxiety and irregular eating patterns found relief through grounding routines, warm cooked meals, and gentle breathwork - all aligned with their dosha.
Coaching with Ayurveda: Real Life Integration
In our sessions at Restorative Consulting, we don't just give you a dosha label - we help you live it.
Here are some reflective coaching questions we use:
What times of day to you feel most vital - and most depleted?
How does your body respond to cold, heat, or damp weather?
What cravings or aversions are showing up in your eating habits?
Do you feel more energized by movement or stillness?
Where in your life are you pushing against your natural rhythm?
These questions help reveal where imbalance is showing up and hot to gently course-correct through Ayurvedic wisdom.
Aligning with Your Doshas: Daily Support
Here's how each dosha can be supported through simple daily practices:
Vata:
Routine and stability
Warm, oily, nourishing foods
Gentle yoga and calming breathwork
Pitta:
Cooling foods and environments
Regular breaks to avoid burnout
Soothing rituals like moon bathing or journaling
Kapha:
Light, stimulating food (think spicy or bitter)
Invigorating movement
Variety and inspiration to spark motivation
Why It Matters
Ayurveda reminds us that balance looks different for everyone. Instead of forcing yourself into a trend or routine that works for someone else, you can honor your body's intelligence and design a lifestyle that truly works for you.
