The Precession of the Equinoxes is the astronomical phenomenon that slowly shifts the position of the Earth's equinox points over time - changing our view of the sky and subtly altering the zodiac alignment used in astrology.
Here's what that means in simple terms:
Imagine the Earth as a spinning top. Over thousands of years, that top starts to wobble very slowly on its axis. Because of this wobble, the place where the Sun rises at the Spring Equinox (March 21st) shifts backward through the zodiac - about 1 degree every 72 years. Over the course of about 26,000 years, the equinox point makes a full circle through all 12 zodiac signs.
Why Does This Matter in Astrology?
The Tropical Zodiac is fixed to the seasons, not the stars. It always begins with 0 degrees Aries on the Spring Equinox - no matter what constellation is rising behind it. That's why Tropical Astrology reflects your personality, life themes, and present-day expression.
The Sidereal Zodiac, however, stays aligned with the actual constellations in the sky. Because of the Earth's wobble, the Sidereal chart has slowly shifted about 23-24 degrees backward compared to the Tropical chart. This is why your Sun sign may change when you look at your Sidereal chart.
The Spiritual Meaning of Precession
At Restorative Consulting, we don't see this as a conflict - we see it as a beautiful reflection of duality and depth. The precession teaches us that:
There is always more than one truth.
Time is not fixed - it spirals.
The soul and the personality are not always in the same place - and that's okay.
Your Tropical chart shows the version of you shaped by this life, this culture, this experience.
Your Sidereal chart shows the soul's memory, shaped by lifetimes, lineage, and spirit.
The Precession of the Equinoxes...
Reminds us that change is constant - and so is truth, depending on how you look at it. Both charts are mirrors. One reflects the light of the moment. The other reflects the wisdom of eternity.
